Terms & Conditions

Welcome to the website for Turn to the Sun Play Therapy, an independent therapeutic practice based in Eastbourne, UK.

By using this website or engaging in therapy services offered here, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

1. Nature of Therapy Services

  • Services are based on a non-directive, child-centred play therapy model.
  • Children lead their sessions using toys, art materials, role-play, and sensory resources.
  • Therapy is designed to support emotional wellbeing and is not a diagnostic, medical, or crisis service.
  • The studio is a dedicated, private space for children and young people; it is not a medical facility.

2. Therapist Qualifications

The therapist holds:

  • MA in Play Therapy (Distinction)
  • PGCE with QTS
  • Certificate in Post-Adoption Therapy

The practice follows the ethical codes of BAPT and BACP, and complies with Keeping Children Safe in Education. Ongoing professional development and safeguarding training are maintained.

3. Assessment and Suitability

  • An initial assessment with parents/carers is required before therapy begins.
  • Services are suitable for children experiencing anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Regular reviews are held approximately every 6 weeks to monitor progress.

4. Sessions

  • Each session lasts 50 minutes and is held weekly at the same time and location, unless otherwise agreed.
  • After an initial settling period, children usually attend independently.
  • Parents/carers should make off-site arrangements, as no waiting area is provided.

5. Fees and Cancellations

  • Sessions are charged on a sliding scale (see FAQ Page for the scale).
  • A minimum of 7 days’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session to avoid full charges.
  • Missed sessions without notice are not refundable.

6. Parent/Carer Responsibilities

  • Ensure children arrive and are collected on time.
  • Remain contactable during the session.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the therapy process.
  • Notify the therapist of any changes affecting the child’s wellbeing.

7. Confidentiality and Safeguarding

  • Information shared is confidential except when:

    • There is a risk of harm to the child or others;
    • Disclosure is required by law (e.g. court order);
    • Shared anonymously with a clinical supervisor.
  • Where possible, the therapist will inform parents/carers before disclosing information.

  • The service adheres to safeguarding guidance and works collaboratively with relevant agencies when necessary.

8. Behavioural Expectations

Children are expected to:

  • Not harm themselves or others;
  • Not damage materials or the therapy space;
  • Remain clothed during sessions.

Persistent unsafe behaviour may result in a review or temporary suspension of sessions.

9. Inclusivity

Turn to the Sun Play Therapy welcomes:

  • Neurodivergent children (e.g. ASC, ADHD);
  • Children who are adopted, fostered, or under special guardianship;
  • Children of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.

A trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approach is taken.

10. Ending Therapy

Therapy may end when:

  • Agreed therapeutic goals are reached;
  • It is no longer in the best interest of the child;
  • Attendance becomes inconsistent or boundaries are not respected.

Endings are planned collaboratively and sensitively to avoid distress.

11. Professional Boundaries

  • The therapeutic relationship remains strictly professional.
  • The therapist does not maintain social or personal contact with clients outside of sessions.
  • Written reports for court or other agencies will only be provided by prior agreement where appropriate.

12. Website Content and Conduct

  • This website includes images, text, and animations for illustrative purposes only.
  • Testimonials are from real clients and are shared with permission.
  • Photographs only depict the therapist, therapy space, natural surroundings, toys, and materials — not clients.
  • Content may not be reused, copied, or distributed without written permission.
